The Pusol Project and its effort to recover the oral memory of Elche and its surroundings

"Make history. Recovery of oral memory in Elche and its surroundings” is the project that the Puçol School Museum has been carrying out throughout this year 2022, based on interviewing older people from the district of Puçol and its surroundings (rural districts of Algoda, Algorós, Matola, Derramador and Llano de San José), with the aim of recovering, preserving and disseminating the traditional culture of our land.

The Puçol School Museum team has always oriented its activity towards projects of these characteristics. The novelties that this year's activity has presented are, firstly, that the interviews, despite being basically life stories, affect the role of women, child labor and school absenteeism, clandestine work and in the "years of change", that is, in knowing how the transformations in society took place, especially in rural areas, thanks to mechanization and population displacements that occurred in the second half of the 20th century.

The other novelty is that, as a result of the project, a book will be published in the coming weeks that collects the interviews and some of the photographs that the people interviewed have lent us, to disseminate the testimonies of our neighbors, specifically of the twenty-five people who have participated in the activity. A publication that will become part of the history and journey of the Puçol School Museum.

Thanks to the impulse of the Hon. Provincial Council of Alicante -which has endowed this project with €50,000-, "Making history" has been able to become a reality.
