"La Traca" en el fondo documental de Puçol

11-04-2021

Hi hagué un temps, not so llunyà, that the city of València produced the magazine of més tiratge d'Espanya, la més polémica, la més jocosa, la més llegida [...] Aqueix setmanari is deia La Traca"[1].

In the documentary collection of the School Museum of Pusol we have seven publications of La Traca, the Valencian satirical newspaper par excellence, counter-current and transgressor, which did not follow any kind of norm and which made reach the whole society, through humour, the politics of the moment, either with texts or through images, which allowed those who could not read to understand the publication and its news.

The Traca was the voice of the Republic and, with the beginning of the war, became a powerful means of war propaganda in defense of the Popular Front. Through his caricatures, he did not leave "puppet with head": Hitler, Mussolini, Hideki Tōjō and Franco became the protagonists of his mocking images, as well as fascism in general. Of a few pages each, little text and many cartoons and cartoons in color, La Traca opened up space in millions of Valencian homes.

The specimens in the museum were donated in 2013 by Eulalia García Fontanet and all are from the first half of 1937. A year later, on March 23, the newspaper was definitively closed, its last issue being in 1228. The most recent Traca conserved in the museum is number 1211 (not dated), which contains the supplement El Furcio (whose subtitle was Vivan las cadenas!) and on its cover appear some tiny Hitler, Hideki Tōjō and Mussolini with the anti-pactwith a giant soldier of the U.S.S.S.R. who says, "Well, you can see where I’m coming from. You can start...!.

You know that at the Pusol School Museum we keep small and large treasures and that, as we complete our inventory, we find amazing pieces of our recent history...

We recommend you to read the catalogue about the exhibition that was exhibited in 2016-2017 at the Centre Cultural La Nau: "La Traca. La transgressió com a norma", in which the complete history of this publication appears.
