The temporary showcase of the Puçol School Museum has a new topic to learn from: stereoscopic photography.
Throughout the 19th century, many types of cameras were designed. One of them, the stereoscopic one, allowed two similar images to be taken simultaneously. Each negative contained two views of the same motif, giving the impression of depth. In order to visualize this three-dimensional effect, it was necessary to use a stereoscopic viewer, an artifact similar to binoculars that managed to reveal the effect of each photograph. Precisely, stereoscopic photography was one of the first techniques with which views of the municipality of Elche were taken: in 1858 and, again, in 1870.
In the showcase “Stereoscopic photography” two of these viewers (desktop and portable) are exhibited, as well as a sample of these photographs, both in glass and published on postcards.
